If you've read A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett and wondered what happened next, you'll want to read Wishing for Tomorrow by Hilary McKay. Sara (rich girl, poor maid, rich girl) has left the boarding school. Her friend Eremengarde has no one to confide in and little Lottie has no one to keep her out of trouble. Then there's Miss Minchin the head mistress who has always ruled the school with an iron fist spending days in her room and Alice, the new maid refusing to keep the school clean and talking about them needing fresh air.
Of course it's all Sara's fault, but she's not there to make it right. Recommended for grades 3 - 6.
