Finn plans to spend the summer reading and talking to as few people as possible. He plans to speak to no more than 12 people all summer. Then Johanna moves in next door and after three days he's spoken to 6 people - 3 of them people he didn't even know when summer began. This summer is going all wrong, but it seems right. Read this book for a laugh and a cry. Grades 4 - 7 check availablity of Notes from the Dog by Gary Paulsen.

I just finished reading the The Blue Shoe by Roderick Townley. I was intrigued within the first five pages to find out more about the beautiful blue shoe created by the town cobbler Grel, for a very mysterious stranger. This is a tale of thievery, villainy, sorcery, friendship and of course one magical blue shoe.
Great read for grades 4 and up.

The Small Adventure of Popeye and Elvis
by Barbara O'Connor

Ignore the cover art, open the book, and read!
Popeye, so named because his Uncle Dooley shot him in the eye with a BB gun, has resigned himself to a long boring summer. But things in his boring town get awfully interesting when the big, silver motor home gets stuck in the mud, and therefore stuck in town, for who knows how long. Popeye meets Elvis, and the two boys go looking for adventure. They find it.
