I'll Pass For Your Comrade: Women Soldiers in the Civil War by Anita Silvey

Long before women were officially allowed to serve in the armed forces of this country, they did anyway! During the Civil War, there were dozens of examples of girls and women who donned soldier's gear to join the fight--on both the Union and Confederate sides. This short history looks at the female soldiers we know about: why they did it, their battle experience, and how they managed to conceal their gender from their comrades in arms. Recommended for grades 5 and up. Check availability
