My Little Car by Gary Soto, illustrated by Pam Paparone
When Teresa receives a little car for her birthday, it’s admired by the whole neighborhood. But somehow she still manages to be irresponsible and leave it out in the rain. When her now bedraggled auto nonetheless saves her from a fierce dog, she decides to try and fix it. Her abuelito shows up just in time to lend a hand and it turns out old cars clean up just as nicely as old grandpas. An adorable story with multiple lessons that go down painlessly! Recommended for Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
