Black Duck by Janet Taylor Lisle

The year is 1929. Prohibition is in full swing. Alcohol is illegal everywhere in the United States. Along the Rhode Island coast fishermen, farmers, storekeepers, police officers, almost everyone is making lots of money smuggling alcohol. Reuben and Jeddy are only 14 and are not involved until the day they find a dead body on the beach. It must be a rum runner. The clothes are too nice and the watch too expensive for a local.

This story inspired by memories of the author's father will have you rooting for the good guys and the bad guys if you can figure out which is which.
